Phases 6, 7 & 8 of South Pars Gas Field Development
After execution of Phase1 of South Pars Gas Field Development and the outstanding performance of Petropars in the development of this project and the proof of Petropars determination and capability in the execution of the most difficult and largest national project, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) assigned the development of Phases 6, 7, & 8 of South Pars Gas Field to Petropars Ltd through a buyback contract.
Phases 6, 7 & 8 of South Pars Gas Field Development was the largest project in the history of Iran's oil and gas industry and its completion and full operation had an enormous impact on Iran's energy and economic level as they led to a 3.5% increase in Gross Domestic Production (GDP) and a 14% increase in gas production capacity of the country.
Cooperation with reputable local and international contractors provided knowledge and technology transference to Petropars and Iranian contractors, and also, it promoted management level of mega projects and effective management of contractors and sub-projects in different areas. Therefore, the cooperation provided a valuable set of knowledge and experience for Petropars and Iranian contractors. By gaining a deep understanding of the market capabilities and Iranian contractors in the execution of this mega project, Petropars can optimally use capability and technical knowledge of Iranian contractors in future projects.
In the development of Phases 6, 7 & 8, Petropars tried to improve project management standards and quality management. Cases that show up-to-date and qualified design, engineering and construction of the project are as follows:
- Setting an impressive record of 25 million manhour work without any incident in the project, which has been unprecedented in its time in comparison with other regional projects.
- Setting a record of less than 31 days to drill and complete wells, which has been unprecedented in Persian Gulf.
- Winning the Green Management award in 2007 from Iranian Society of Environmentalists.
- Winning the Project Excellent Model (PEM) award from the first National Project Management Award.
In order to achieve the objectives of the project, Petropars successfully put into operation the Phases 6, 7, & 8 development project, which at the time was the largest project of oil and gas industry in the country. The share of Iranian contractors and vendors in this project, with more than 200 Iranian contractors, was about 53%, which is another honor for Iran's upstream oil and gas projects.
Management is the most sophisticated technology and Petropars with the implementation of mega project of Phases 6, 7 & 8 development showed that it has acquired this technology at an international competitive level.
