Development of Phase 11 of South Pars Gas Field

The project for development of phase 11, which is the last phase in the process of full development of South Pars Gas Field, is located in the vicinity of Iran-Qatar joint border. The contract for development of Phase 11 was the first contract which fell under the new generation of oil and gas contracts, the so-called IPC Contracts, and which was concluded by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), on June 16, 2017, for attraction of the foreign investments, with a Consortium comprising TOTAL of France, CNPCI of China and Petropars.

According to the contract, considering the fact that Petropars accredited as the first-ranking E&P Company had acquired remarkable experiences, Petropars was assigned to develop Phase 11 in full cooperation and interaction with TOTAL of France and CNPCI of China. However, due to the international restrictions imposed against Iran and as the said partners withdrew and relinquished the contract, eventually a decision was made on October 6, 2019 to cede full development of Phase 11 to Petropars to utilize domestic capabilities and competences for its development.

Phase 11 is scheduled to be developed in two integrated and consecutive stages. Stage one  will consist of the drilling of 30 wells plus fabrication and erection of two production platforms, each containing 15 wells, with the aim being to produce 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day as well as 80,000 barrels of LNG. This will require construction of the establishments and installations plus two 32-inch pipelines totally measuring 270 Kilometers in length.

As the studies indicate, Phase 11 will experience substantial reduction in pressure three years after its production inception: a situation which will require, in stage two of development of Phase 11, installation of the revamping equipment to retain and maintain the trend of production. Thanks to such challenges, Phase 11 is considered the most complicated and complex project compared to other projects implemented at South Pars Gas Field.
